Welcome on the BITS Website

The International Bureau of Social Tourism is an international non-profit association, whose aim is to promote access to tourism for all, and more particularly for low-income population groups.

With its worldwide network of members, the BITS is nowadays considered the true world organization of social tourism.

BITS members include associations, trade unions, cooperatives, private organizations, as well as public authorities in charge of tourism.

	15-17/10/2009 European Forum of Social Tourism in Málaga Some 200 representatives coming from 20 countries have met from 15 to 17 October in Malaga (Spain) to take part in the 5th European Forum of Social Tourism organised by the BITS in partnership with SEGITTUR (the State Agency for Management of Tourism Innovation and Technologies) and the European Commission. 	15/10/2009 Memorandum of Understanding BITS - ENAT At the 5th European Forum of Social Tourism in Malaga, BITS and ENAT signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU), with a view to foster closer cooperation between the two associations.This MoU will provide a framework for joint initiatives, supporting the common goals of BITS and ENAT. 	03-04/07/2009 Meeting of the Local and Regional Authorities Network in Sicily It is in Montalbano Elicona, in the province of Messina in Sicily, that the Local and Regional Authorities Network of Social and Fair Tourism (COLORES) met. The meeting was organized in cooperation with the Association of the "Most Beautiful Villages in Italy" and the Municipality of Montalbano. Read more
	01/06/2009 Launch of the Europe Senior Tourism Project Spain is proposing holidays to European Union citizens over the age of 55 with partially discounted group travel during the low season. The goal of the project managed by SEGITTUR with whom BITS has an agreement is to maintain the activity of tourism and create jobs through active policies, by taking action against the seasonal nature of tourism. 	21/04/2009 Seminar on Training and Research in Social and fair Tourism Organized by the BITS in partnership with the "Université Libre de Bruxelles" (ULB/IGEAT) on April 21st, this seminar gathered representatives from universities, academic institutions and from social and fair tourism organizations in charge of training and research. 	03/04/2009 BITS Board of Directors in Midi-Pyrénées Region The BITS Board of Directors met in Toulouse on April 3rd, at the invitation of the Regional Council of Midi-Pyrénées. A regional seminar on associative and social tourism where the BITS took part was also organized on this occasion. Read more
	20/01/2009 The European Parliament approves a pilot project on social tourism Last 17 December, the European Parliament voted for the adoption of a preparatory action to develop social tourism in Europe in the framework of the Community budget for 2009. Read more
